New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested five persons and detained four others in connection with series of assaults on African nationals, according to Times of India report.

Police had launched a crackdown on attackers who targetted African nationals in South Delhi area recently. As per the reports, three persons are still said to be absconding. 


On Thursday night, four African nationals were attacked in separate incidents in South Delhi`s Mehrauli area where around 300 African nationals reside.


The attacks on the African nationals come a week after a Congolese national, Masonda Ketada Olivier, 29, was beaten to death by three youths on May 20 after a verbal altercation over the hiring of an auto-rickshaw in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi.


 


 



On Saturday, the Delhi Police registered four separate complaints on the matter. 


The attacks on the African nationals come a week after a Congolese national, Masonda Ketada Olivier, 29, was beaten to death by three youths on May 20 after a verbal altercation over the hiring of an auto-rickshaw in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi.


Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who earlier today asked the Delhi Police to increase patrolling in areas inhabitated by African nationals and ensure their safety, is likely to meet Delhi Police Commisioner later today on the issue.
