In a statement, Stalin, referring to the apex court's Wednesday order dismissing the review petition filed by Tamil Nadu against its 2014 order banning Jallikattu, said the state government had failed to put across the point that Jallikattu is part and parcel of Tamil culture.

He said the government has failed to argue its case citing the historical evidences that show Jallikattu is linked with the Tamil culture.

Stalin said that Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Tamil Nadu are saying Jallikattu will be held during the ensuing Pongal festival but the central government has not taken any constructive steps for that to happen.

He urged the central government to bring an appropriate law so that the sport could be held during Pongal festival next January.
