An official survey has revealed that almost 99% population of Telangana is non-vegetarian. And the numbers are divided identically between men (98.8) and women (98.6) as far as the love for meat is concerned.

The survey was conducted by the Registrar General of India among people aged 15 years and above.

Telangana is followed by West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Kerala in terms of highest non-vegetarian population.

On the other hand, the states with highest vegetarian population include Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana.

The Times of India reported that the population of non-vegetarians across India has come down from 75% in 2004 to 71% in 2014.

'Veg' Gujarat too loves 'non-veg'

Meanwhile, the state of Gujarat, which traditionally used to have a large vegetarian population, has recorded a change in eating preferences.

Here, two out of every five persons love eating meat, the survey found.

As per data available, while 61.80% population of Gujarat is vegetarian, 39.05% loves feasting on non-vegetarian food.

And like Telangana, in Gujarat too an identical number of men (39.90%) and women (38.20%) eat non-vegetarian food.
