Aurangabad: The Director of the Chikhalthana Airport here was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000, an official said on Sunday.
According to a complaint, Alok Varshney demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 and was caught by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting the first instalment late on Friday.
After being interrogated for over three hours, he was taken to Pune for further investigation. He has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
A company based in Mumbai complained that Varshney was seeking bribe for permitting its workers to carry out ground handling operations of non-scheduled flights at the airport.
The CBI also raided the Airport Authority of India offices as well as his residences in Aurangabad in Maharashtra and in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
The CBI seized some documents including those related to the purchase of two flats in NOIDA and Gurgaon.
