"A four-member Punjab Police party positioned in Bangkok is bringing Jagtar Singh Tara to India today (Friday) after his extradition by Thailand," a police spokesman told reporters here.

The development comes days after a Bangkok court Tuesday ordered Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara's extradition from Thailand to India.

However, the US-based rights group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) had hired top Thai attorneys to help 'Tara' challenge the Thai Criminal Court's order to extradite him to India.

The self-styled commander of terror outfit Khalistan Tiger Force, Jagtar Singh 'Tara' was apprehended by Thai authorities on Monday.

Tara, who had shaved off his beard and cut his hair was not wearing a turban when he was arrested. Thai authorities said that he had been living illegally in Thailand for over four months.

The Khalistan Tiger Force commander and his accomplices Paramjit Singh Bheora, Jagtar Singh Hawara and Dev Singh were arrested after Beant Singh's murder but escaped from the high security Burail Jail in Chandigarh in 2004.

Three BKI terrorists - Tara, Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjit Singh Bhaura - and their accomplice Devi Singh, a murder convict living with them in the same prison barrack, had made a sensational escape by digging a 104-feet-long tunnel in the high-security Burail jail here on the intervening night of Jan 21-22, 2004.

However, Hawara and Bhaura were re-arrested by security agencies later but Tara remained elusive.

Sources also revealed that after the bombings in 2010, the suspect remained in Nepal for two years and in Thailand for another two years.

Last week, Thai authorities, acting on a tip-off from the Punjab Police, arrested Tara from the house of a member of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) in Bangkok.

According to reports, Tara was living in Thailand under a Pakistani passport.
