The Congress also said that the PM had not been 'politically correct nor politically honest'.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said that the LBA between India and Bangladesh was a ratification and exchange of instruments.

“The MoU, the protocol, was signed on 7th September 2011 between Dr Manmohan Singh and Sheikh Hasina. Happy that PM Modi is taking forward all what has been agreed, as is expected of a nation to honour its sovereign commitments,” Sharma said, as per ANI.

“He has played partisan politics with his visit to Bangladesh. His excluding the CMs of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya shows a very petty mindset,” Sharma said, adding, “In his speech and statement, he has tried to rewrite pages of history by not acknowledging with respect the great contribution and sacrifice of the then PM Indira Gandhi. It’s a fact of history that it was Indira Gandhi who had stood up in support when there was repression in erstwhile East Pakistan.”

Sharma also attacked PM Modi for his remark that his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina had resolved to fight terrorism with zero tolerance "despite being a woman."

“PM Modi certainly doesn’t have qualities, gravitas, or grace that statesman have. More than once PM said that he wanted to congratulate Sheikh Hasina for fighting a war against terrorism despite being a woman,” Sharma pointed out.

“Was PM Modi trying to say that woman are cowards and their courage needs to be validated by an Indian PM?” he asked.

Meanwhile, PM Modi faced flak on social media website Twitter for his remark on Sheikh Hasina.

While delivering a lecture at Dhaka University in Bangladesh on Sunday, Modi said that despite being a woman the Bangladesh PM has vowed that her government will have zero tolerance against terrorism.

Micro-blogging site Twitter was abuzz with tweets calling Modi's comment 'sexist'.

In response to the remark, Twitterati have also posted pictures of women who have achieved remarkable heights in their fields.
