The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Central Government to respond to a petition seeking the criminalisation of marital rape.
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Central Government to respond to a petition seeking the criminalisation of marital rape.
A Bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath asked the Centre to respond within six weeks.
The HC has scheduled the next hearing in the case is for March 23.
In February last year, the High Court had rejected a public interest litigation on the matter, saying that the Supreme Court was already seized with the issue and hence it was not inclined to entertain this writ petition.
