Bail pleas of Lala Ram Sharma, a Section Officer in the Department of Economic Affairs, and Paresh Chimanlal Budhdev, partner in Mumbai-based Chitale and Associates, today came up for hearing before Special CBI Judge S C Rajan.

CBI told the court that they have already filed the reply to the bail plea of Budhdev and would soon file its response on a similar application by Sharma.

The court fixed the matter for April 15 for hearing the bail pleas considering that the arrested accused, including Budhdev and Sharma, were in judicial custody till then.

Besides Budhdev and Sharma, the other arrested accused in the case are Chartered Accountant Khemchand Gandhi, two other government servants -- Ashok Kumar Singh and Daljeet Singh -- and Ram Niwas.

CBI had earlier told the court that a large number of documents have been seized during the probe and the accused were allegedly procuring and passing on classified and secret documents to others.

Ashok Kumar Singh was working as under secretary in Department of Disinvestment of the Finance Ministry while Daljeet Singh was an upper divisional clerk in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries.

CBI had earlier said it was a well-flourished racket that was being operated out of Delhi with deals being fixed mostly in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
