The Haryana Cow Commission on Wednesday decided to issue identity cards to genuine cow protectors.

“There are a few criminals posing as cow protectors,"Haryana Cow Commission chief and RSS idealogue Baani Ram Mangla said, according to a report in TOI.

The move by the commission has come following police inputs on fake cow protectors (gau rakshaks) extorting money from truckers.

Noteworthy, PM Modi said that majority of 'gau rakshaks' are anti-social elements who have proclaimed themselves protectors of cows to cover up their misdeeds.

Earlier, in April, Haryana Police had busted a gang of alleged fake cow protector. The fake protectors charged a fee of Rs 8,000 per vehicle from traders engaged in the transportation of cows and other animals in Hisar district.
