Higher education institutes should connect with culture: Karan Singh
`Higher education should have a deep connect with life, our culture, tradition and environment.`
Neemrana: Higher educational institutions should establish a "connect" with India's culture and tradition to help create "holistic" individuals, Congress MP Karan Singh said on Sunday.
Delivering the 7th Annual Lecture at NIIT University here on its Foundation Day, he said, "Higher education should have a deep connect with life, our culture, tradition and environment."
Singh, who is also the varsity's chairperson, called upon all the higher educational institutions to establish connect with tradition and civilisation for all-round development of the present generation.
On the occasion, the varsity also felicitated 'Water Man of India' Rajendra Singh, recipient of the 'Nobel Prize for Water The Stockholm Water Prize', for his contribution of bringing water to 1,000 villages in India.
Advocating the idea of "green campuses", Rajendra said, "Our generation has taken mother nature for granted and we are already paying dearly for it. It is time that we take decisive measures to minimise damage to the environment and live in harmony with nature."
He also stressed upon use of green technologies at campuses like earth-air tunnels, rain water harvesting facilities and water recycling systems to minimise consumption of natural resources and become self-sufficient.
At present, around 1,200 students are enrolled in various courses at the university, established in 2009.
