Indian Army soldiers train for avalanche rescue in Gulmarg: Video
The Siachen Glacier is the highest battleground on the earth.
Srinagar: Even as Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, who miraculously survived under 35 feet of ice in Siachen Glacier, continues to battle for his life, a video surfaced on Wednesday showing Indian Army soldiers training for avalanche rescue at high altitude in Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg area.
News agency ANI tweeted the video today.
The Siachen Glacier is the highest battleground on the earth and the minimum temperature in the region can dip to -50 degrees Celsius or -140 Degree Fahrenheit in winters.
Deployment of a soldier in Siachen is permitted by the Indian Army for a maximum period of three months and in the high-risk areas of the glacier such as Bana Post, the limit is said to be of 30 days.
The Army unit which is deployed in this difficult terrain is rotated after every six months.
