New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said that an informed decision making system based on robust statistics on social sectors like health, education, poverty, employment, social backwardness, housing and environment, will pave the way for holistic development of India.

President Mukherjee expressed his delight to note that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is celebrating the ninth Statistics Day on June 29, 2015, commemorating the birth anniversary of late Prof PC Mahalanobis.


"The theme "Social Development" chosen for this year's Statistics Day is appropriate in the current scenario. Let us on this day, draw inspiration from the life and career of Prof Mahalanobis whose excellence has influenced many to adopt statistical techniques in various subjects," he added.


The President also congratulated the statistical fraternity of India and wished the Statistics Day every success.
