New Delhi: Ten students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, accused of organising event on February 9 on death anniversaries of Parliament convict Afzal Guru and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front co-founder Maqbool Bhat in the JNU campus, have been identified.

Besides Umar Khalid, a member of 'Democratic Students Union' (DSU), alleged to be a pro-separatist, nine others have been identified as, Ashwathi, Anwesha, Anjali Jha, Bhawana Bedi, Reyaz ul Haq, Rubina Saife, Anirban Bhattacharya, Komal Bharat Mohite and Banjoyotsna Lahiri.


Notably, all ten are absconding.


Umar Khalid – Pursuing PhD from School of Social Science. The main organiser of the Feb 9 event. He conceived the idea of organising "A Cultural Evening" on Feb 9, the day on which Afzal Guru was hanged. His main supporters were Anirban Bhattacharya and Banjoyotsna Lahiri. He was one of the applicant who had applied for the booking of Sabarmati Dhaba in JNU campus.


Reyaz-ul Haq – Student of International Language (Spanish) JNU. Accused of inviting like-minded people to join the cultural evening. He arranged the sound system for the program and uploaded photos of the even on social media on instructions of Banjoyotsna Lahiri.


Banjoyotsna Lahiri – Associated with DSU and works as a guest faculty at Ambedkar University. She is accused of conceptualising of the program in consultation with Umar Khalid. She proposed the title of the event as "A country without a post office against the Brahminical cannibal collective conscience, against judicial murder of Afzal Guru, AFSPA and atrocities by Indian Army, Right to Self Determination including assassination of people of Kashmir etc" and suggested agenda for the same which included mobilisation/propaganda for the event.


Anirban Bhattacharya – Active member of DSU. He is alleged to have propaganda material including posters and banners. He was also in-charge of distribution of the propaganda material.


Rubina Saife – Married to Reyaz, she is pursuing M Phil from JNU. Her name was mentioned on the poster for mobilisation of the event.


Komal Bharat Mohite – Member of DSU. She was among the applicants who applied for booking of Sabarmati Dhaba. Her name too featured in the poster issued for mobilisation of the event.


Ashwathi, Anwesha, Anjali Jha and Bhawana Bedi – All are active members of DSU. Their names were found in the poster issued for mobilisation of the event.


JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested on Friday after a case of sedition and criminal conspiracy was registered over holding of the February 9 event on the varsity campus during which anti-India slogans were alleged to have been raised.
