On December 26, 2014, the Indian Army veteran, hailed as the hero of Bangladesh Liberation War, had presented his books 'An Odyssey in War & Peace' and 'Surrender at Dacca' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He was Chief of Staff of Eastern Command during the 1971 operations.
Later, he was appointed governor to Goa and Punjab.
Jack Farj Rafael Jacob, whose family had originally come from Iraq and settled in Bengal in the mid-18th century, grew up in a conservative Baghdadi Jews household.
