New Delhi: Following the tradition to have a special guest on the occasion of India's Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office has invited France President Francois Hollande to be the chief guest on January 26, 2016 celebration.

Hollande has accepted the invitation and will be taking the salute from India's military might.


“We are confident that his visit will further strengthen the robust strategic partnership between India and France and the special ties shared by our two countries,” Ministry of External Affairs tweeted.



Last year, the United States President Barack Obama was invited as the chief guest on the Republic Day.


Obama had come along with First Lady Michelle Obama.
