As per reports, Naved and his slain accomplice Noman were sent on the mission to target a BSF convey by their handler in the valley Abu Qasim.

Qasim is the chief Lashkar-e-Toiba operative in Kashmir.

Naved told his interrogators that Qasim had met them in Khudwani in Anantnag district on August 3 and guided them towards Udhampur.

The LeT operative arranged for their travel in a truck to Udhampur, Naved said.

Abu Qasim has been on the radar of security agencies for a while now. He was behind the attack on army convey last year in Srinagar in which 8 army personnel got killed.
