New Delhi: On a day the government told the Supreme Court that no files relating to appointment of judges were pending with it, nine additional judges were tonight appointed to three high courts.

Separate notifications issued by the Law Ministry said nine additional judges -- five in Karnataka, one in Patna and three in Madras high courts -- have been appointed.


Earlier in the day, the government told the Supreme Court that it has cleared 34 names out of the 77 recommended by the collegium for appointment as judges in various high courts in the country.
