Plot to attack Delhi NCR, Ardh Kumbh foiled; four suspects nabbed

New Delhi: In a joint operation, intelligence agencies and Delhi Police's special cell are believed to have foiled imminent terror attacks in North India by dismantling a terror module.

Reports said on Wednesday that the security agencies have, apart from busting the terror module of a global outfit, arrested or detained four terror suspects.

News agency ANI reported that three suspects have been detained and one arrested from Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

The four have been identified as Akhlaq, Osama, Mohd Azim and Mohd Mahroz.

The module was believed to be in the last stages of carrying out strikes at a mall in Delhi NCR and at Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar.

The operation is still underway and more suspects are still to be nabbed.

The suspects' links with the Islamic State terror group are being probed.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is reportedly closely monitoring the operation.

The development comes amid inputs that this year's Republic Day parade could be targeted where French President Francois Hollande will be the chief guest.

However, intelligence sources did not say if the busting of the module and the perceived threat to the Republic Day parade was linked.

The daily said the terror suspects were in contact with people in Syria through VOIP and it is possible that they were radicalised online. Their locations were traced to Uttarakhand and UP.
