New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condoled the death of veteran journalist Dileep Padgaonkar and described him as a "leading public thinker".

"Dileep Padgaonkar was a leading public thinker whose contribution to journalism will always be remembered. Pained by his demise. Rest in peace," the Prime Minister said in a statement here.


Padgaonkar, veteran journalist, well known author and former editor of The Times of India, died at a private hospital in Pune in Maharashtra on Friday morning, officials said.


He was 72. He was admitted to the Ruby Hospital on November 18 following a heart attack.
