PM Modi must take note of `worrying` Nepal situation; China may take advantage: Yashwant Sinha

New Delhi: Amid deterioration in ties between India and Nepal over the promulgation of the new Constitution there, senior BJP leader and former external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take note of the worrying situation in the neighbouring country.

“Now our PM is back in India (from the US visit), I would request him to take cognizance of the Nepal situation. It's really worrying,” ANI quoted Sinha as saying.

Sinha cautioned that if India delays its move, China will take advantage of the situation in Nepal.

“China will surely take advantage of the situation in Nepal, so India needs to stay alert. The PM must take this up on priority,” he added.

India had yesterday expressed hope that "difficult days" would not affect the bilateral relationship even as it welcomed the Nepal government's move to hold talks with agitating groups.

Nepal's major parties have begun talks with the agitating Madhesi parties to find a solution to the Terai problem through peaceful means.
