New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the efforts of Shramiks (labourers) on Labour Day.
Prime Minister Modi in his message to labourers across the nation, saluted their hardwork, determination and dedication have an invaluable role in the making of India.
"On Labour Day we salute the hardwork, determination & dedication of millions of Shramiks who have an invaluable role in the making of India," Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet.
The International Labour Day-2016 is being observed today across the globe. This day is a national holiday in more than 80 countries and is also celebrated unofficially in many other countries.
The Labour Day aims to pay tribute to workers' sacrifices in achieving economic and social rights all over the world.
The Labour Day originates from the United States labor union movement in the late 19th Century, particularly the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work per day.
