The workers were hired in February this year as 'Multi Purpose Workers' on consolidated wage payment scheme.

The College Director, who issued the order in this regard today, said the step had been taken in compliance with a directive of the Election Commission of India.

He said some political parties had sought intervention of the Election Commission, alleging that the workers' appointment was in contravention of recruitment rules.

The college had since terminated the services of these temporary workers with immediate effect, he said.
