Jaipur: Cutting across party lines, members of the Rajasthan Assembly on Friday congratulated former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for being honoured with Bharat Ratna.

The House passed by voice vote "congratulations and best wishes" to Vajpayee who will be conferred the highest civilian award by President Pranab Mukherjee at his residence today.


As Speaker Kailash Meghwal read out highlights of former prime minister's political, social, parliamentary, and foreign affairs attainments, the members extended their greetings by thumping the tables in the House.


"Vajpayee was a legendary parliamentarian, well-acclaimed not only in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but also recalled in state assemblies," the Speaker said after Question Hour of the Assembly.


"Vajpayeeji is the pride of every one in the country as every one pays respect and has faith on him. He has proved his leadership in Indian politics and Parliament at international level too," he added.


The House also remembered Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya who was also conferred Bharat Ratna and all legislators expressed their gratitude and respect towards him.
