The hangman, who is nicknamed “Babu Jallad”, arrived at Nagpur jail last week.

Although the final decision on Memon's hanging is awaited, the preparations are on in Nagpur’s Central Prison to hang the 1993 Mumbai blasts convict.

According to a report in a daily, the hangman is also a constable in Yerawada prison.

He has been given the responsibility of overseeing the preparations as well as rehearsals.

The constable had reached Nagpur last week and visited the temporary structure where the execution is likely to take place.

Earlier, the state prisons department had chosen three other constables from the Central Prison to carry out the execution. There is no confirmation if “Babu Jallad” will execute Memon or he is there just to supervise.
