As soon as the House was adjourned, Dev, MP from Silchar, apparently questioned why the Trinamool Congress was not participating in the opposition protests over Lalit Modi controversy and Vyapam scam and whether the TMC chief had asked them not to.

Though what she said could not be heard clearly, an angry Kalyan Banerjee shouted on top of his voice that no one has ever questioned the integrity of the TMC supremo. He said he has never made any remarks against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul.

"I can even make remarks standing here...How could you do that? ...You have no political background. You are here because of your father (former Congress MP Sontosh Mohan Dev)," Kalyan shouted, challenging Dev.

Several Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Jyotiraditya Scindia rushed to cool the tempers. Scindia was seen asking Dev to leave the chamber.

Soon, Kalyan left the Lok Sabha chamber protesting Dev's remarks. While Gandhi had left the House when the incident took place, Rahul was not present.

The TMC MP's reaction also grabbed the attention of some BJP MPs, who were huddled in a discussion on the other side of the Well.
