New Delhi: Two days after rallies were held at the Jantar Mantar in support of the sedition-accused JNU president Kanhaiya Kumar and his supporters for organising an event in support of Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru, Delhi University Students' Union president Satender Awana has warned if no action was taken against those who had raised anti-India slogans he will shoot them.
Addressing a gathering of thousands of students on Wednesday, DUSU president Awana said, “Those students at JNU thought they could get away with saying whatever they wanted, they thought that some video editing on electronic media would help them, but we all heard the slogans that were chanted. Our brothers from JNU who went to stand up for the country told us what was happening. If these people are not punished, then we as jagruk yuvaks (awakened youth) will enter their campus and shoot the traitors.”
As per a report in leading Hindi daily 'Jan Satta', the DUSU president also slammed those who led a march and raised slogans demanding justice for Hyderabad Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula who had committed suicide recently.
Prior to Awana's speech, thousands of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members marched between Ramlila Maidan and Jantar Mantar, raising slogans decrying all “anti-national” activity.
ABVP members also raised slogans criticising Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Brinda Karat, D Raja and other leaders during the march.
The participants demanded action against JNU students who had allegedly raised “anti-India” slogans during a controversial even organised at the university campus in support of Afzal Guru and termed his execution as judicial killing.
The ABVP members shouted slogans such as “the Kashmir we have fought for is entirely ours'' and “shoot all traitors in JNU''. Raj Vardhan Singh, an ABVP member from Ayodhya, said at the march, “I can think of no bigger threat than young students calling for the destruction of the idea of India.”
Saurabh Sharma, joint secretary of JNU Students’ Union, was also quoted as saying, ''My university is being tarnished by the likes of these anti-nationals. A few of those cowards surrendered yesterday, but many of them still roam the campus freely… Left parties and the JNU Teachers’ Association are trying to make excuses on the behalf of those who have clearly degraded our country.”
