Most of the shops remained closed as the whole Garnala village near Ambala city thronged to pay tribute to its braveheart Garud Commando Gursewak Singh, who laid down his life while battling terrorists at Pathankot Air Force base on Saturday early morning.

Gursewak is survived by his wife Jaspreet, to whom he was married just forty five days ago, parents and an elder brother, also an Army officer.


Singh was posted in Adampur and was ordered to rush to the Pathankot Air Base on Friday night.


He has joined Air Force six years ago soon after completing his graduation. Gursewak Singh was supposed to come home on leave January 13 to February 6 to celebrate his wife'e birthday.
