Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra on Saturday congratulated victorious candidates of opposition PDP and BJP in the Lok Sabha polls and expressed hope that they would bring lasting peace and rapid progress in the state. "Vohra has conveyed his greetings and good wishes to the six Parliamentarians whose success at the polls was announced yesterday," an official spokesman said. In his letters to the new MP`s, Vohra expressed hope that they would effectively voice the interests of the state and the aspirations of its people and do everything possible to bring lasting peace and rapid progress in the state. National Conference-Congress combine was routed in the state as PDP and BJP shared the six Lok Sabha seats with Union ministers - Farooq Abdullah and Ghulam Nabi Azad - and three other sitting MPs biting the dust. Meanwhile, a PDP spokesman said victory celebrations continued for the second day today as various rallies and functions were held in different parts of Kashmir to rejoice the win of the party president Mehbooba Mufti, former deputy chief minister Muzzafar Hussain Baig and former finance minister Tariq Hameed Karra from Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar Lok Sabha seats, respectively. "The official Gupkar residence of Mehbooba was abuzz with the activities where senior politicians and people from different walks of life came in large numbers to congratulate the party president.
And similar scenes were also witnessed at the residence of Baig and Karra," the spokesman said. He said the party leaders expressed gratitude to the people for reposing trust in the electoral process. "We are overwhelmed by the kind support you have given us in the elections to represent your aspirations and sentiments at the national level," the spokesman quoted the party leaders while interacting with the visitors.
