Srinagar: Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday led a `surprise` rally to Sher-e-Kashmir park here to check preparations for tomorrow`s gathering to mark 50 years of Awami Action Committee (AAC). "The Mirwaiz, along with his supporters visited the park where he is scheduled to hold a gathering tomorrow to celebrate 50 years of AAC, a religious organisation founded by his father," said Shahidul Isalm, media advisor to the Mirwaiz. "Mirwaiz wanted to see the venue and check preparations for the rally to make it a success," Islam said. He said AAC has made all arrangements for the rally and has also sent a letter to the district administration seeking permission for the gathering. After leaving the park, the Mirwaiz, along with his supporters, marched to Lal Chowk in an apparent effort to mobilise people for tomorrow`s rally. However, police did not allow them to proceed towards Lal Chowk.
