18-month-old Sumreena Bano was on Thursday taken to the clinic run by paediatric specialist Dr Rattan Singh Manhas in Doda for treatment, Shaheda Begum, mother of the infant, said.

"We took our daughter for routine checkup as she was suffering from fever and common cold. Dr Manhas gave her an injection when the child's condition deteriorated," the mother alleged.

The girl's mother alleged the doctor shifted her to the Doda district hospital.

As the news of the death spread, people gathered outside the clinic and demanding suspension and arrest of the doctor.

Later in the evening, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Doda, Dr Kulbhushan ordered the suspension of Dr Manhas and initiated an inquiry into the incident.

The child's parents asked as to how a government doctor could run a private clinic.
