In their complaint, Dakshina Kannada district vice president KP Jagadish Adhikari and district executive member M Sudarshan said the messages were posted on Facebook on October 20.

"If you continue to play political gimmicks by creating enmity between Hindus and Muslims by spreading hatred among Hindus through communalism and inciting innocent people, our aim will be to eliminate persons like you. Communal elements from the town will be our next target," the message, carrying photographs of the two leaders, purportedly said.

Sudarshan alleged that it was an attempt to disrupt the harmony between Hindus and Muslims and aimed at spreading unrest in the society.
