"The toll now stands at three. One body we got at the spot earlier, another person died at the hospital and one more body is under the debris, we are trying to reach it," DCP South-East (Bengaluru) Boralingaiah MB told PTI.

Asked about chances of others being trapped under the debris, he said, "we are not ruling that out for now, there may be or may not be."

Officials said at least five persons were rescued by the State Disaster Response Force and rescue teams and they have been rushed to a hospital.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (city civic body) officials and Mayor of Bengaluru city G Padmavati, who visited the spot said quality issues and illegal construction of one entire floor were stated to be the reason for the incident.

"Strict and merciless action will be taken against the owner, architect and BBMP officials involved," Padmavati said.
