New Delhi: CPI(M) on Friday termed as "baseless and unwarranted" comments by its senior leader V S Achuthanandan that the Left was defeated in 2011 Kerala Assembly polls due to lapses like "irrational" selection of candidates and asked him to refrain from making such charges in public.
"Comrade Achuthanandan should desist from making such uncalled for remarks in public," the party Politburo said in a statement here.
It said Achuthanandan had made "certain allegations in a television interview regarding party matters which were already decided in the party. Hence these charges are baseless and unwarranted". In a virtual indictment of the CPI(M) state unit led by his bete noire Pinarayi Vijayan, the octogenarian leader yesterday said that lapses including "irrational" selection of candidates had led to the narrow defeat of the LDF in 2011 assembly polls in Kerala. In an interview to a Kerala news channel, Achuthanandan also said a particular section in the party appeared to have wished against the LDF returning to power.
