Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday emphasised on role of education, saying it holds a key part in shaping an individual into a good human being.

"Education is essential as it plays an important role shaping people as good human beings. Meritorious children are the future of India," Chouhan said at a function organised by American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) to honour students who excelled in class XII exam.


The chief minister highlighted various schemes, including Ladli Laxmi that was launched in 2006.


So far, nearly 21 lakh girls have been benefited with the scheme in the state.


Scholarships is being given to 1.60 lakh children of SC/ST/Backward Class and minority categories in the state, h said.


Scheme to offer scholarships to poor kids of General category too was launched in the state, he said.


On the occasion, Chouhan gave award and medal to five students. He also announced to give Rs 10,000 reward each to as many as 105 meritorious students from Muslim community belonging to 22 states.


AFMI Founder Member and Trustee Dr AS Nakadar and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor Dr M Rehman among others were present on the occasion.
