New Delhi: The family of the Mumbai acid attack victim and locals on Monday carried out a protest here to demand a CBI inquiry into her death and cremation with state honours.
Carrying her coffin, the protesters and activists of Aam Aadmi Party marched from the victim`s Narela house to block GT Karnal road. They were prevented from moving further by the police at Singhu border.
The family and the protesters demanded that CBI should probe the case, besides compensation for the family and job for one of the family members and cremation with state honours.
"We have given them (govt) another 30 minutes. If nothing happens, then we will have to come down on the roads. We don`t have a demand which is tough to fulfill, CBI inquiry is a must to find the culprits behind Preeti`s death. We don`t get any pleasure in jamming the roads, but we have been forced to do so," the victim`s father Amar Singh told reporters.
When asked about the issue of compensation, he said, "We will see into it. It is okay even if we don`t get it."
Senior police officials and Area Magistrate rushed to the spot and after persuasion, the protesters returned home with Preeti`s body.
23-year-old Preeti, who died on Saturday, was on ventilator support for two weeks as her right lung had suffered severe damage in the acid attack.
An unidentified man had flung acid on Preeti when she got down from Garib Rath Express at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai on May 2. She was supposed to join the Colaba Naval Hospital `INS Ashwini` as a staff nurse. PTI
