Muslim organisation demands tribunal to probe terror cases
Jamait Ulema Maharashtra, a Muslim religious organisation, on Saturday lamented that many Muslim youths were languishing in jails on false charges of terrorism, and demanded special tribunals headed by retired judges to probe such cases.

Such tribunals should be set up on the lines of special courts provided in Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act and Maintenance of Internal Security Act, a resolution adopted at a convention conducted by the organisation here said. No action should be taken against a person on terrorism-related charges unless the tribunal permits, the resolution said. It also said that fast-track courts should be set up for the terror cases.
Other resolutions passed at the convention demanded reservations for Muslims, a separate law for prevention of riots, FSI for mosques and madrasas and allowing Muslim policemen to sport a beard.
Shankaracharya Adhikshanandji of Puri Peeth and Vincent Michael Concessao, Archbishop Emeritus of Delhi, were special invitees to the convention.
At a press conference ahead of the convention, Maulana Arshad Madni of Jamait-ul Ulema-Hind said innocent youths were being victimised and government did not care to withdraw bogus cases against Muslim youths. "Thus, their lives are ruined and their prime youth is spent in jails," he said.
