New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday took a jibe at the Congress for its stand on reservation along caste lines.
On Tuesday, Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi kicked a row when he called for an end to reservation along caste lines. He was snubbed later by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who said the empowerment of Scheduled Castes and Tribes and Backward Classes has been "an article of faith with the Congress". Commenting on Dwivedi`s statement, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar today described Congress as the “confused” party which is in “continuous and perpetual dilemma”.
Dwivedi earlier this week kicked a row when he slammed caste-based quota, and asked Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to take steps for dispensing with them.
"This (reservation on caste lines) should have come to an end. Why it did not happen so far was because vested interests got into the process. Does the real needy person even among the dalits and backward castes get the benefits of reservation? Those in the upper crust of these communities only avail the benefits. There is a difference between social justice and casteism," Dwivedi told a news agency. Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said in a two-page statement that she was of the "firm opinion" that the system of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs must continue.
