Haridwar: The controversy surrounding Swami Swaroopanand`s remarks against Sai Baba refused to die down on Saturday with a potential successor to the Shankaracharya of Dwaraka Peeth supporting his guru`s view by saying that the ability to perform miracles can`t be mistaken for religion.
"When the Shankaracharya began purifying the society, there were numerous views polluting the society in the name of religion. Today once again the society is going through the same phase. "The ability to perform miracles is being misinterpreted as religion. This illusion needs to be shattered or it may harm the society," Swami Avimukteshwaranand told reporters here. Criticising Sai Baba followers for burning the effigy of Swaroopanand, Avimukteshwaranand said his guru was only fulfilling his role as the flag-bearer of the movement started by Adi Shankaracharya.
