IMD puts monsoon deficit at 43%

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has put the monsoon deficit figure for the country at 43%.

As per its latest weekly estimate, conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to move into remaining parts of the country in the next 48 hours. The IMD said that the monsoon has further advanced into parts of west Madhya Pradesh and central Maharashtra and move towards northern Gujarat, west Rajasthan and some parts of Haryana. The National Capital Region of Delhi is also likely to witness rainfall during the next 24 hours.

Eastern and southeast Peninsular India has received normal rainfall, the IMD release added. The government is keenly watching the advancement of monsoon in the country as it has direact bearing on crop production and food inflation.

The government has assured that there are enough stocks of food grains to tackle the situation.
