Lucknow: Reacting to Mulayam Singh Yadav`s warning to Uttar Pradesh government against any complacency, Congress and BJP on said the SP supremo has started realising that his party is losing ground in the state.
Mulayam`s statement that people should not punish SP for mistakes of party ministers and MLAs was "laughable", BJP chief spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
"In the last Assembly elections people voted in favour of SP, therefore the party has to face the consequences of its representatives," he said.
Mulayam has started realising that the people are going to punish him in the Lok Sabha polls, Pathak said, adding "wary of this, he (Mulayam) is asking the people not to punish him for the mistakes of SP MLAs."
Senior Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh said the SP supremo has realised that he was losing ground.
"How can the party which runs the government escape from its responsibility? Mulayam often makes statement about ministers and Chief Minister of his party`s government. Who has stopped him from correcting them?" he asked.
Alleging that Mulayam expresses gratitude towards BJP and VHP, Singh said, "This is the reason why morale of the communal forces are high. This is the first government in the country which has lost its credibility in such a short time." Mulayam had yesterday warned Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his cabinet colleagues against any complacency, saying the electorate were very wise and their satisfaction was the key for party`s success in the Lok Sbha polls.
The former Chief Minister said "so far" people of the state seemed satisfied with the work of the SP government.
"We have launched a number of schemes... It is right, but I want to tell my colleagues, whether you will send me to Delhi with strength or alone," he said.
