New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday tendered his resignation as the MP from Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency, which he won by a massive margin of 570,128 votes.
He put in his papers in the office of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Modi also won from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, which was the second constituency from where he contested.
The PM retained the Varanasi seat and, as expected, vacated Vadodara seat in his hometown. Under rules, a member who has been elected from two Lok Sabha constituencies has to vacate one of the seats within 14 days of the declaration of result. With Lok Sabha results out on May 16, the deadline was to expire today.

Modi`s trusted aide Amit Shah, a BJP legislator from Naranpura (Gujarat), is likely to resign from the state Assembly and could be sent to Parliament from Vadodara. Even during campaigning, Modi had made it clear that he intended to make Varanasi his `karm bhoomi`.
