New Delhi: Citing recent poll victories secured by the party and its students` wing, Congress on Monday said that results were at hand to suggest a swing in the mood of voters in the country in its favour.
"In Karnataka, Congress won two Parliamentary seats (in by-polls). "NSUI won students` body elections in Vadodara. This gives a clear indication as to which way the nation`s mood is swinging," party spokesperson Meem Afzal told reporters at an AICC briefing.
Afzal was talking about National Students` Union of India`s victory after a gap of 10 years in union elections at Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara. NSUI trounced the BJP-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in the results announced on Friday.
ABVP lost both the posts of vice-president and general secretary to NSUI as the Congress`s students` wing secured its first victory there since 2004.
In Karnataka, Congress won two seats in Lok Sabha bypolls with DK Suresh and actress Ramya conclusively defeating the JD(S) candidates.
BJP did not contest the seats, prompting Congress to allege that the party had come to an understanding with JD(S).
