Nagaland govt to construct Foothills road
The Nagaland government today informed the public that the construction of foothills road from Tizit under Mon district to Khelma under Peren district has been taken up and appealed for the cooperation of the people.
Kohima: The Nagaland government today informed the public that the construction of foothills road from Tizit under Mon district to Khelma under Peren district has been taken up and appealed for the cooperation of the people.
Nagaland Government commissioner and secretary, Temjen Toy in a press release issued this evening said that a lot of demands are being made for construction of foothills road and the Department of Works and Housing would like to clarify the position on this very important road as well as give the latest status.
He said that the State Government has, over the past many years, kept the construction of this road from Tizit to Khelma as one of its top priorities.
Toy informed that the Government has renewed its efforts to funding for this gigantic four-lane, 390 plus km road and take up with the Planning Commission of India.
He also disclosed that the State Government has also decided that 50 per cent of all revenues from Oil and Natural Gas within the State will be set aside for this project. The proposed foothills road will pass through the Special Development Zone, the setting up of which is being envisaged by the Government, he informed while reiterating that foothills road is the initiative of the State Government and cooperation of the people is sought in order to make this road a reality. As frequent imposition of blockades on the other side of the border areas are hampering the normal life in Nagaland, various Naga organizations has been demanding for construction of foothills road without crossing into Assam.
