Bhubaneswar: A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger rain or thundershower coupled with gusty surface winds in some parts of Odisha.

Fishermen on the south Odisha coast have been advised to be cautious while venturing out to the sea following the forecast.


According to the MeT office here, a depression over the south west Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression and moved further west-northwest today. It lay centred about 1,175km southwest of Paradip, it said.


Under its impact, rain or thundershower could occur at some places in the districts lying in the southern part of the state and at one or two places in the districts in the northern part, it added.


Distant Cautionary Signal Number-One (DC-I) has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports following the weather update.


Gusty surface winds from the northeasterly direction with speeds reaching 30 kmph may sweep the south Odisha coast. Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea in that part of the state, the MeT office said.
