Chandigarh: A car on Wednesday caught fire here, however, no one was injured in the incident, Chandigarh Fire and Emergency Services official said.

"When we received the call around noon about car catching fire, we rushed to the spot near dividing road of sector 23 and 24 and found that car was engulfed in flames. We immediately doused the flames," fire official said.


"The interior of the car was completely gutted in the fire while car's engine was safe," he said, adding that nobody was injured in the incident.


Traffic was halted for few minutes for dousing the flames, official said.


Shiva, who was driving the car, was informed by a passerby that smoke was coming out of the car.


"When my brother switched on the car AC, black smoke started coming out of the car. He then stopped it immediately and called up fire fighting department. In a few minutes, the car was engulfed in flames," Vishal Kashyap, resident of sector 41 said.


He said car suffered damage of more than Rs 1 lakh because of the fire.
