Chandigarh: Intense heat wave conditions today swept across Punjab and Haryana with mercury soaring by several notches above normal in both the states. According to MeT office, maximum temperatures remained above 40 deg C level in most parts of the states. Hisar was turned out to be the hottest place in Haryana as it sizzled at 45 degrees C, three notches above normal, it said. Chandigarh had a maximum temperature of 43 deg C, four degrees above normal. In Haryana, Ambala, Karnal and Bhiwani recorded mercury at 44 deg C, 44.2 deg C and 44.2 deg C respectively, four notches above normal. In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala had maximum temperatures of 43.8 deg C, 44 deg C and 44 deg C respectively, going up by up to 4 degrees above normal. MeT department, in a forecast, said that weather will remain dry during next 24 hours in Punjab and Haryana.
