New Delhi: Scientists claim to have found the world's longest insect wriggling on a mountain road in south China.

Experts say that the length of the insect is 62.4 centimetres, which happens to beat the previous record holder which was 56.7 cm long.

The finding breaks the record for length for all 807,625 insects discovered so far, researchers said.

Zhao Li, with the Insect Museum of West China (IMWC) in Chengdu, found the insect during a field inspection in Guangxi Zhuang region in 2014.

At over two feet and six inches, it easily breaks the record for length for all 807,625 insects discovered so far, according to the IMWC.
