Islamabad: In a good news for minorities, Pakistan government has accepted a resolution to declare holidays on Holi, Diwali and Easter.
This will be the first time in its 68 years of Pakistan, the country will have public holiday on these occasions.
The resolution was moved by PNL-N MNA Ramesh Kumar Vankwani in National Assembly. "This house is of the opinion that the government should take steps to declare Holi, Diwali and Easter as closed holidays for minorities," the resolution said.
According to a report there are at least 2 million Hindus in Pakistan that makes up to at least 2 percent of the country's population. The total number of Christians is said to be at least 2.5 million in 2005, which is 1.6 percent of the total population in Pakistan.
