Dhaka: At least seven people were killed and three others were injured in a road accident in Bangladesh's Chittagong district on Monday, a police officer said.

The accident occurred when a rice-laden truck lost control and fell into a roadside ditch about 5.00 a.m. leaving seven people dead on the spot and three others injured, Xinhua news agency quoted a police officer from Chittagong as saying.


The bodies were sent for autopsy while injured were admitted to nearby hospitals, the anonymous police officer said.


Bangladesh has one of the highest fatality rates for road accidents in the world. 


According to official statistics, thousands of people die in various accidents every year.
