US diplomat`s car crushes Pakistani to death

Two Pakistanis, riding a motorbike, were hit by the speeding car of an American diplomat in Islamabad late Thursday night, leaving both of them injured, reported Xinhua citing witnesses. One later died in hospital and the other was undergoing treatment, police and doctors said.
The dead man`s family has registered a case with the police against the diplomat. However, the diplomat has been released as he enjoys diplomatic immunity.
The US embassy confirmed the accident and said that an accredited US diplomat was involved in a road accident at about 9.30 pm on Thursday in the vicinity of Margalla Road and Constitution Avenue in Islamabad.
"The embassy employee`s vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying two Pakistani citizens, injuring both men," the statement said. The statement said the US diplomat, who also sustained minor injuries, was treated, and released.
"We have and will continue to cooperate fully with the appropriate Pakistani authorities on the investigation, and are working through our local insurance company to address financial questions or concerns," the statement said.
